12 Steps to a Balanced and Healthy Lifestyle

How many of you have lost weight for a special event like a wedding, high school reunion or holiday party?  You weren’t happy with your appearance, but the invitation gave you the extra motivation to do something about it.  What did you do?  Perhaps you started an intense boot camp type of exercise program or signed up for a 21-day juice cleanse diet.  I bet you lost weight and looked amazing in the dress you bought for the occasion.  What happened 6 months after the event? Most people eventually gain back more weight than they lost once they resume their regular pattern of eating.   If this sounds like you, consider what it does to your body to be on a repeated cycle of weight loss and weight gain. Wouldn’t it be healthier to find a balanced way of living that allows you to maintain a consistent level of overall health and well-being?

As women of color, many of us have a family history of diabetes, hypertension, heart disease and other chronic conditions that can be prevented as well as managed with a healthy diet and lifestyle modifications.   9. Do activities that nourish your spirit
  10. Balance caring for others with self-care
  11. Surround yourself with healthy relationships
  12. Find community and get support
